I can't help but be a huge fan of Peter Sellers. I think he was a genius as the bumbling mustached karate chopping idiot. Brilliant. You cannot beat the slapstick in the pink panther films thanks to Sellers/Edwards. Every scene with Cato and every scene with the lunatic dreyfus. I with many people think Steve Martin should never have cashed in on playing Clouseau because he does not do the part justice but I also have to blame bad writing and directing. These pp remakes are an embarassment to the series to say the least. There will only ever be one original bumbling mustached idiot and that is Peter Sellers as the incomparable Chief Inspector Jacques Clouseau. The case is solv-ed.
