Michael Lu

The American pianist Michael Lu has been noted for “moving” (Pianist) performances of a “warm, enveloping tone” (Cleveland Classical). As a concerto soloist, he has worked with such conductors as Stephen Mulligan and Gemma New, and his chamber music collaborators have included Maria João Pires and members of the Cleveland, Chicago Symphony, and St. Louis Symphony orchestras. In 2023, Michael was selected to participate in Maria João Pires’ Partitura Residency at the Gilmore Piano Festival; the previous year, Murray Perahia invited Michael to study in his Beethoven sonata masterclass series in Munich, Germany. Michael has studied with Antonio Pompa-Baldi at the Cleveland Institute of Music since 2018. His previous mentors include Stanislav Ioudenitch and Seth Carlin. He also studied with Reid Smith and Jon Kimura Parker. Additionally, Michael is the founder of Classical Music for a Better World (CMBW).
